A Budding Basement Bedroom

Before: A Blank Canvas

The original state of this basement was typical of many unfinished spaces: exposed concrete floors, cinder block walls, visible insulation, and exposed wiring. Before entering the unfinished part, there was a tiny, enclosed room that created a cramped and unwelcoming transition into the extra space. While it offered plenty of potential, the basement lacked functionality, comfort, and aesthetic appeal. It was a blank canvas waiting for a vision to bring it to life.

The Before

The Renovation Process

Our team started by addressing the foundational needs of the space. This included installing proper insulation and drywall to ensure the basement would be energy-efficient and comfortable year-round. Wiring was neatly concealed, and we put in a new egress window to ensure the space could be filled with both natural light during the day and nice bright lighting at night. Adding the egress window also made it possible to make the space a fully functioning basement bedroom for our client's son.

Next, we focused on the flooring. The cold concrete was replaced with luxury vinyl plank flooring in a warm wood tone. Not only does this flooring add a polished look, but it also provides durability and moisture resistance—perfect for a basement environment.

We then added recessed lighting and painted the walls in a soft, neutral gray to create a welcoming atmosphere. Crisp white trim and baseboards provided the finishing touches, adding contrast and a touch of elegance. Thoughtful lighting placement ensures a cozy and well-lit environment, making the space feel open and airy.

The finished basement is unrecognizable from its original state. The transformation turned a once-dreary space into a bright, modern area that feels open and inviting. With smooth, finished walls, stylish flooring, and warm lighting, the space is now ideal for a cozy bedroom!
